TLC Workshop: OERs for Teaching and Learning

OERS

The rapid increase of textbook prices is a particular problem at a university like CUNY whose students often come from lower income backgrounds. Many students are already hard pressed to afford college, let alone expensive texts. As advocates for our students, we have the opportunity and responsibility to consider moving away from both textbooks and costly educational materials and towards no-cost solutions like Open Educational Resources (OERs).

Join the staff of the Teaching and Learning Center on Wednesday 10/19 from 1-3 pm in room 9207 for a workshop on integrating open educational resources into your classroom.

Participants are encouraged to come to the workshop with material or materials in mind that theyโ€™d like to replace with an OER solution. We will explore some tools and resources that are necessary to begin weaning ourselves away from using pricey, proprietary educational materials with the goal of designing courses that are more accessible to lower income students and that reinforce the belief that knowledge should be free and open. Particular attention will be paid in the workshops to thinking about how we can involve our students in the processes of building OERs.
