Getting Started with Open Educational Resources (OER)
Thursday, 11/21, 2:30pm-4:30pm, Room 9207
Are you interested in learning more about open educational resources (OER), where to find OER, and how to integrate OER into your courses? Are you curious about how teaching with OER connects to larger conversations about digital and open pedagogies?
On Thursday, November 21st join members of the TLC staff in room 9207 from 2:30pm-4:30pm to discuss open educational resources and related pedagogies. The workshop will cover strategies for integrating OER into your course design, developing open and public-facings assignments, and digital tools to engage with and create OERs. Workshop leaders plan to respond directly to attendees interests and needs surrounding OER; participants are encouraged to come to the workshop with ideas, questions, and course materials. Topics the workshop can address include:
- OER repositories and information in the public domain
- OER to use in your own course
- Assignment design w/OER materials
- Using digital tools w/ OERa
- OER creation (w/ students)
- Teaching with OER & open platforms, such as the CUNY Academic Commons
- Creative Commons and open licensing
During the workshop we will explore strategies and resources that are necessary to begin moving away from high-cost course materials in favor of teaching with OER. This workshop will assist participants in designing courses that are more accessible to lower income students and reinforce the belief that knowledge should be free and open.
