The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) is pleased to invite Graduate Center students to apply to participate in a Focused Inquiry Group (FIG) to curate disciplinary Open Educational Resources (OER) collections.
FIG participants will work collaboratively to pull together syllabi, assignments, activities, reading materials, video and audio content, and curricular modules that can be used in a variety of courses in the discipline. To see a sample collection, please visit the GC Music Teaching Hub. FIG projects can be similar to this model, or can differ to meet the needs of a specific department and discipline. This FIG aims to leverage GC student instructorsโ expertise to curate and vet OER materials that are culturally relevant to and inclusive of the needs and viewpoints of CUNY undergraduates.
FIG participants will meet five times throughout Spring 2023 to develop OER collections. Meetings will introduce topics in open education, provide opportunities to explore open education models, and allow time for selection, creation, and publicizing of the OER materials. By the end of the project, FIG participants will produce and share their OER collections with other graduate students and adjunct instructors in their disciplines.
The TLC is prioritizing collaborations within programs. Multiple students working on a collaborative project from within a single program, and/or graduate students already working on curating OER collections are especially encouraged to apply. The OER collections developed by FIG participants may be the start of, or continuation of, a departmental resource for graduate students who are teaching with open educational resources.
GC students will be paid $600 to participate in the FIG. To apply, complete the Google Form below by February 10th. Applicants must be enrolled full-time at the Graduate Center and have experience teaching undergraduate courses at CUNY. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by February 17th, and the first meeting will be held at the Graduate Center sometime between 2/27-3/10.
Participants will be paid via a Financial Aid award.
