Upcoming TLC Support for the Fall 2025 Semester

Greetings!

Below is information on upcoming support from the Teaching and Learning Center for instructors preparing their fall courses.

TLC Late Summer Institute

The TLC will host a Late Summer Institute August 22nd (in person) and August 25th (online). The Late Summer Institute is open to all students and faculty at the Graduate Center as we prepare courses for the Fall 2025 semester.

On Friday, August 22, in room 3317 at the Graduate Center, the TLC will organize a series of conversations from 10am-2pm. We are prepared to discuss syllabus construction, assignment design, educational technology, hybrid/online courses design, classroom facilitation, grading, and more. Topics will be selected by attendees, and conversations will be facilitated by TLC staff.

On Monday, August 25, individual consultations with TLC staff will be available via Zoom from 10am-4pm. Sign up to receive feedback on syllabi, assignment design, discussion strategies, grading, or anything else.

Discover the possibilities of teaching with Manifold! This workshop will provide an overview of the Manifold digital publishing platform and show you how it is being used in the classroom. You will learn how to: use Manifold as a course home page, create a course reader from scratch and existing content, use Manifold’s built-in annotation tool and Reading Groups, and create open pedagogy projects with your students.

This will be an informal session where participants can ask questions and think through teaching options as a collective.

PDEV 79401: Teaching Strategies

Finally: GC students are encouraged to register for PDEV 79401: Teaching Strategies. This 0 credit course meets online at 9:30 on Fridays during the semester, and gives graduate students a space to discuss their teaching, learn new approaches, and connect with instructors from other programs.
