The TLC’s Assignment Library is here! 📚 Special shout out to Laurie Hurson for making this exciting project happen! 🎉🎉🎉 The library contains openly licensed assignments that instructors can use in their classes.

To create the Assignment Library, TLC Staff and Fellows engaged in a multi-step exploration, development, and design process that included hosting the Assignment Hack-a-thon. At Hack-a-thon, GC student instructors discussed student-centered teaching practices and redesigned their own assignments to be more inclusive and equitable. Students who “hacked” and remixed their assignments at the event agreed to openly license their materials and these assignments served as the foundation for the TLC’s Assignment Library.

In the 1970s, the Dining Commons at the Graduate C

In the 1970s, the Dining Commons at the Graduate Center stood out with affordable options and its remarkable ambiance.

In 1999 the Graduate Center moved to its current location on 34th Street, and until 2020 supported multiple spaces for community members to congregate and purchase food and refreshments. All dining spaces closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and food service in the building has yet to resume.

As the Graduate Center’s leadership struggled to restore food service in the building, the Graduate Center community has been left without a reliable space to dine, connect, protest, and heal. "At CUNY, building a sense of community has its specificities. Most of our CUNY students work, have families, and live in different boroughs. Commuting and doing non-school related activities leave our students with little time and space for meeting folks and feeling they belong to some sort of collectivity. With that in mind, I intentionally seek in my courses to nurture a feeling of connection. It takes time and work, but there are many ways to do it. A very efficient way of beginning is using objects to mediate people’s interactions."

In the summer of 2022, the Teaching and Learning Center launched the STEM Pedagogy Institute (SPI) 🔬🧬🧪with support from the NYC Economic Development Fund and Workforce Development Corporation.
